Good days and bad days

This past Sunday was perfect — sunshine, blue skies, people enjoying time with friends and family. I went for a run, taking it all in, and it felt like a glimpse of the summer ahead. But then Monday arrived: grey skies, cold air, and suddenly, that weekend buzz felt like a distant memory.

I’m no expert in mental health, but I do know that, like many of you, I have good days and bad days. One moment, I feel confident and ready for anything; the next, I’m doubting myself, wondering if I’m doing enough. In an industry where last-minute changes, long hours, and quiet periods are the norm, it’s easy to feel the pressure.

So, what helps? Here are a few things that work for me — maybe they’ll help you too.

Small Steps to Look After Yourself

  • Talk it out If I’m feeling anxious or overwhelmed, I talk to a close friend or family member. Even if they don’t have the answers, just saying things out loud helps.
  • Get outside It’s a classic tip, but it works. Whether it’s a quick walk or a run, stepping away from screens and taking in some fresh air always clears my head.
  • Write it down At the start of the year, I began making a weekly list of things I’m grateful for. These can be big wins (like booking a job) or small ones (like catching up with a friend). Recognising the positives makes a huge difference.

Remember: You’re Doing Great

As a Supporting Artiste, you’re part of an industry that thrives on creativity, resilience, and adaptability. Some days will be brilliant; others, not so much. But through it all, being kind to yourself is key. So this World Health Day, take a deep breath, acknowledge the wins (big or small), and remind yourself — you’re doing great.
